چکیده

The capacity of the human infant to reproduce vocal sounds and to imitate social behavior as early as nine weeks of age has not been described in the literature. Valentine (1942) noted a "talking back" stage at two months in his own children, but did not describe it or outline its development. Lewis (1951) states that "when a three-month-old infant hears a sound drawn from his own repertory, his response may resemble it in intonation and phonetic form," and that "this may amount to a rudimentary form of imitation." Pediatric neurologists (Ford, 1960) do not credit the human infant with "volitional activity" until three months of age. The accurate imitation of a mother's vocal sounds and social behavior by her nine-week-old baby is an occurrence which would not ordinarily be expected. Therefore, it seems worthwhile to describe such an incident and to outline its development in an infant who had been under intensive observation in a longitudinal developmental study. In the following case, we had observed the subject as a newborn and noted her striking capacity at birth for visual and auditory responses. We had also noticed that the young mother's early relationship to her infant showed special intensity of interaction in the visual and auditory

Delayed Imitation of Lipsmacking Gestures by Infant Rhesus Macaques (Macaca mulatta)

Human infants are capable of accurately matching facial gestures of an experimenter within a few hours after birth, a phenomenon called neonatal imitation. Recent studies have suggested that rather than being a simple reflexive-like behavior, infants exert active control over imitative responses and 'provoke' previously imitated gestures even after a delay of up to 24 h. Delayed imitation is re...

Exploration or imitation? The effect of music on 4-week-old infants' tongue protrusions.

In a newborn imitation paradigm, an auditory stimulus--music--replaced the standard adult behavioral model. Alternating intervals of music and silence affected 4-week-old infants' rates of tongue protruding--evidence that tongue protruding is a general response to interesting distal stimuli.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of resistance-aerobic training on the expression of Sema3a and NCAM genes and proteins of Soleus muscle in male rats of different age groups. Methods: Thirty male Wistar rats in three groups of 2-week-old infant (n = 10), young 6-week-old (n = 10) and 96-week-old elderly (n = 10) were divided into two groups of training and control...
